Following extensive reshuffles at the higher echelons of the Bangladesh Police, the government has now sent 33 senior officers to forced retirement simultaneously. Among the retired officers are 14 Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs), 18 Additional Deputy Inspectors General (Additional DIGs), and one Superintendent of Police (SP).

This information was announced in a special gazette notification issued on Sunday (July 5) night by the Police-1 branch of the Ministry of Home Affairs. The notification, signed by Senior Secretary Manzur Morshed Chowdhury of the Ministry of Home Affairs, states that these officers of the BCS (Police) Cadre have been retired from service in the public interest, in accordance with Section 45 of the Government Service Act, 2018.

According to relevant sources, most of the officers sent to retirement had served as Superintendents of Police in various districts across the country during the 2018 national parliamentary elections.

According to the notification, two of the DIG-ranked officers sent to forced retirement are currently under arrest and imprisoned in separate cases.

The government directive states that this order, issued in the public interest, will take immediate effect. However, the retired officers will receive all their due retirement benefits in accordance with service rules.
