US President Donald Trump has announced that discussions are underway between the United States and Iran to end the ongoing conflict between the two countries. However, he claimed that Tehran is not yet fully prepared to reach an agreement.

Speaking to reporters at the White House on Friday, Trump stated that communication between the US and Iran continues and talks are ongoing with the aim of ending the conflict. He also claimed that Iran is showing more sincerity in these discussions than before. However, the US President did not confirm whether a resolution would be reached soon.

Trump said, “We are talking to them. They are discussing with much more seriousness than before. But I don’t think they are ready for a deal yet. Let’s see what happens.”

Earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio claimed that Iran was communicating directly and indirectly with the United States for a peace deal. However, he alleged that Tehran is not yet ready to accept US proposals or implement any agreement. On the other hand, Iranian officials have rejected these statements, asserting that a compromise is not possible due to Washington’s unreasonable and restrictive conditions.

Discussions between the United States and Iran on continuing talks also took place earlier this month. On July 10, Trump had stated that Washington agreed to new talks at Iran’s request, but at the same time, he declared that the earlier interim ceasefire had effectively ended.

Despite diplomatic communication, military tensions between the two countries have not abated. The United States is conducting continuous airstrikes targeting various Iranian military installations, drone storage facilities, naval capabilities, and command centers. In retaliation, Iran has claimed to have attacked US military bases and facilities belonging to US allies in the Gulf region.

Recently, Trump also threatened a larger military strike against Iran. He stated that if Tehran does not compromise, the US could launch an attack that would be larger than all previous operations. He had earlier commented that Iran had two paths: reaching an agreement or facing US military action.

Among the main points of contention between the two sides are Iran’s nuclear program, missile capabilities, Tehran’s support for armed groups in the Middle East, and shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. The United States demands strict control over Iran’s nuclear activities and regional military presence. Conversely, Iran has been demanding an end to US and Israeli attacks, security assurances, and the lifting of sanctions.

The ongoing conflict has heightened concerns about commercial shipping in vital waterways such as the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea. It also impacts global energy supply, oil prices, and international trade. While the ongoing discussions between the US and Iran offer a possibility of ending the conflict, a quick agreement remains uncertain due to the opposing stances of both parties.
