The ongoing military tension between the United States and Iran has escalated to a new level. Tehran has claimed a US attack on a critical railway bridge in Iran’s northeastern Golestan province. Simultaneously, a missile and drone attack alert has been issued in Kuwait. Both sides are exchanging harsh threats, creating new concerns about the security situation in the Middle East.
Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB reported that seven missiles were fired at the Ak Tekeh Khan railway bridge, located outside Akkala city in Golestan province, at approximately 1:30 AM local time. Two of these missiles struck the railway lines and exploded. However, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that there were no casualties from the attack. The organization blamed the United States for the assault and warned of a “harsh and crushing response.”
Protesting the latest attack, Iran has sent separate letters to the President of the UN Security Council and the Secretary-General. The country’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, alleged that the United States has once again launched a widespread military attack against Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He stated that these attacks are a clear violation of the UN Charter and international law.
Meanwhile, speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, US President Donald Trump claimed that the United States is already militarily ahead in the conflict. He stated that if Iran attacks the United States again, “20 times more force” would be used in response to each attack. He also claimed that while Iran is interested in returning to an agreement, he doubts their ability to uphold their commitments.
Concurrently, the General Staff of the Kuwaiti Army announced that the country’s air defense system is intercepting enemy missile and drone attacks. The state news agency KUNA reported that sounds of explosions were heard in various areas of the country, and warning sirens were activated. However, no information about damages from the attacks has been immediately released.
Pressure is also mounting on the Iran issue within US domestic politics. Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren criticized President Trump, stating that this conflict is causing American casualties and driving up the prices of fuel and essential goods in the global market. She urged Congress not to allow Trump to continue unauthorized military operations.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf also sent a strong message to the US, stating, “If you strike, you will be struck back.” He further warned the United States regarding the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing that the security and control of the region would be managed in consideration of Iran’s interests, not based on any foreign threats.
The latest developments have further intensified fears of a broader military conflict in the Middle East. The international community is closely monitoring the situation and calling for intensified diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions.
