A writ petition has been filed with the High Court demanding an investigation into the 18-month activities of the interim government led by Dr. Muhammad Yunus. After hearing the matter, the court has set next Thursday (May 21) for passing an order.

On Sunday (May 17), the High Court bench comprising Justice Ahmed Sohel and Justice Fatema Anwar issued this order.

Barrister M. K. Rahman and writ petitioner Barrister Mohsin Rashid argued for the writ petition in court. Attorney General Md. Ruhul Quddus Kajol participated in the hearing on behalf of the state.

Briefing journalists after the hearing, Barrister M. K. Rahman stated that the writ petition mentioned an anarchic situation created in various sectors, including the economy and health, due to the interim government’s 18-month activities. An application has been made to form an inquiry commission under the Commission of Inquiry Act to investigate these matters.

He further added that the writ also stated that an investigation is necessary to prevent a situation where an elected government could be overthrown in the future. The court heard the matter and scheduled next Thursday for the order.

Writ petitioner Barrister Mohsin Rashid said that an investigation has been sought into all incidents that occurred during the interim government’s tenure. The government will determine the method of investigation. The state party has stated that it will seek instructions from the government on this matter.
