BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman announced that Cumilla would be made a division if there was a strong demand from the people. He made this statement at a street rally organized at Lakshmipur Bazar field in Barura Upazila, Cumilla, on Saturday (May 16).

Tarique Rahman stated that when BNP is in power, it fulfills the promises made to the people. He said, “Barura and Bogura will see equal development. BNP has fulfilled its election pledges in the past and will continue to do so in the future.”

He further stated that democracy has been established in the country through a long period of movements and struggles. “Just as people liberated the country in 1971, they have liberated the country again in ’24. Now the main task is the reconstruction of the country,” he added.

Emphasizing public involvement in nation-building, the Prime Minister said, “The fate of a nation that works hard changes. The reconstruction of the country is not possible for the government alone. The people must come forward as owners to build the nation.”

Tarique Rahman visited Chandpur on Saturday after nearly two decades. During his visit, he participated in various programs including the distribution of family cards, inauguration of canal re-excavation activities, a street rally, and a district BNP organizational meeting.

Starting his journey by road from his Gulshan residence in the morning, he first inaugurated the re-excavation work of the Khordda Canal in the Waruk Bazar area of Tamta South Union, Shahrashti Upazila, Chandpur. Later, he also participated in the re-excavation activities of the Bishwa Canal near Ghosh’s Hat in Kumardugi village, Shah Mahmudpur Union, Chandpur Sadar Upazila.

Additionally, he was scheduled to attend a family card distribution event at Chandpur Government College ground in the afternoon, as well as a district BNP organizational meeting. He would conclude his visit by returning to Dhaka by road in the evening.
